Police arrest car thieves in Ekiti, recover stolen vehicles

The Police in Ekiti State have arrested two suspected car thieves in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, a superintendent of police, listed the two 35-year-old men as Bamisaye Abiodun and Olaniyi Jamiu.

Abutu said in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday that the duo were nabbed by operatives from the command’s Rapid Response Squad on 18th August, 2025, following a credible tip-off.

The police spokesperson said, “Investigation revealed that the suspects and others who are currently at large, specialize in stealing vehicles from where they were parked and selling them to their receivers.

The suspects, during investigation, confessed to the commission of the alleged crime and further stated that they are members of the same syndicate with one Babalola Ezekiel, who was arrested and prosecuted sometime in 2024 for a case of armed robbery and murder.

They equally stated that they were planning to go and steal a vehicle from the Odo Ado area of Ado-Ekiti before they were arrested.

“Two Toyota Camry cars were recovered from them, while effort is underway to arrest other fleeing gang members, the receivers of the stolen vehicles and the possible recovery of other stolen vehicles,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Joseph Eribo, has called on everyone to be vigilant and report any untoward incidents or suspicious persons found in their environs to the police.

Eribo said, “The command will continue to work assiduously to ensure the maximum safety of lives and property of all the good people of the state
