PDP chieftain tackles Osun Rep for criticising Adeleke

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has faulted remarks by the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Wole Oke, against Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying the next election will be decided by voters and not political entitlement.

Olajengbesi, an Abuja-based lawyer and convener of the Imole Grassroots Mobilisation Network, who is eyeing the PDP ticket for the constituency in the 2027 general elections, dismissed Oke’s claims of alleged neglect of his constituency by the Adeleke administration as “laughable.”

Oke, who has represented the constituency since 2003 and recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress, had in a recent social media post critised Adeleke, alleging neglect of his constituency by the governor.

But Olajengbesi, in a statement made available, said Oke lacked the moral standing to criticise Adeleke, who he said had demonstrated integrity and results-oriented governance.

He (Oke) has no moral authority to attack a governor who is working for the people with both state resources and personal family funds,” he said.“While Oke has spent over 20 years defending his personal interests, Governor Adeleke has, within just three years and despite financial challenges, delivered great governance, solid infrastructure, welfare policies, and innovative, people-centred programmes.”

Olajengbesi lauded Adeleke as the only governor in Nigeria who has refused to collect security votes, opting instead to transparently channel such funds into public service.

Efforts to reach Oke for comments were unsuccessful. A request for his response sent via WhatsApp on Sunday was read but had not been replied to as of Monday evening when this report was filed.
