Oyo SUBEB denies exam leakage, threatens legal action

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has denied involvement in the alleged leakage of the results of the recently concluded Common Entrance Examination in the state.

The board, led by its Executive Chairman, Dr Nureni Adeniran, described the allegation, which was reportedly made during a programme on a radio station in Ibadan, as false and misleading.

It said the allegation could cause unnecessary damage to the reputation of the board and its leadership.

The board stated this in a statement released on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to the statement, OYOSUBEB had no role in the conduct, setting, production or handling of questions for the examination.

“For the avoidance of doubt, OYOSUBEB is not involved at any stage in the conduct, setting, production or handling of questions for the Common Entrance Examination.

“Therefore, any attempt to link the board, its executive chairman or its officials to the alleged leakage is completely unfounded,” it said.

The board said the administration of Adeniran had consistently upheld transparency, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of its responsibilities.

It added that it would not allow “unsubstantiated allegations or speculative reports” to tarnish the integrity of the board or its leadership.

The board also clarified that complaints or inquiries concerning the conduct, administration or outcome of the examination should be directed to the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, which it identified as the appropriate authority responsible for the examination.

It said OYOSUBEB had no involvement in the conduct or administration of the examination.

While acknowledging the media’s role in holding public institutions accountable, the board urged journalists and broadcasters to verify information before making or airing allegations against public officials and institutions.

It specifically called on the management and presenters of the radio station, as well as other media organisations, to exercise caution and ensure accuracy in their reports.

The board warned that defamatory statements, false allegations or what it described as a continued smear campaign against Adeniran would attract legal action.

It said it would pursue all lawful remedies available to protect the integrity and reputation of its leadership.

The statement added that the board remained focused on its mandate of strengthening basic education in Oyo State and would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to promote quality, transparency and accountability in the sector.

It urged members of the public to disregard the allegation and rely on verified information from the appropriate authorities concerning the Common Entrance Examination.
