Oyo rescue: Church group urges enhanced security in schools, communities

The Western Nigeria Union Conference Adventist Men’s Organisation has called for sustained and proactive security measures across schools,  worship centres and other vulnerable settlements following the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The organisation said the safety of children, teachers and other citizens must remain a top national priority.

In a statement made available on Sunday and signed by the Director of WNUC AMO, Olusola Olayinka, and the organisation’s Public Relations Officer, Omobolaji Akangbe, the group thanked God for the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers.

It described the development as a welcome relief for the affected families, the education community, Oyo State and the country.

The organisation also commended the Federal Government, President Bola Tinubu, the Oyo State Government, Governor Seyi Makinde, security forces and other stakeholders for their roles in securing the victims’ release.

“We appreciate the courage, sacrifice, vigilance, and commitment of our security personnel who continue to stand in defence of lives, property, peace, and national stability. Their service remains vital to the protection of citizens and the preservation of public confidence,” the statement read.

While celebrating the rescue, WNUC AMO “called for sustained, coordinated, and proactive security measures across schools, rural communities, worship centres, highways, and vulnerable settlements, adding that the safety of children, teachers, and citizens must remain a top national priority

As Adventist men, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting peace-building, moral leadership, community vigilance, responsible citizenship, and prayerful engagement for a safer society,” it said.

The organisation also prayed for the recovery of the rescued pupils and teachers, wisdom for political leaders, protection for security personnel and lasting peace across the country.

“We pray that Almighty God will comfort the affected families, strengthen the released pupils and teachers, grant wisdom to our leaders, protect our security forces, and restore lasting peace, unity, security, and stability to Nigeria.

“Heal our land, preserve our children, strengthen our institutions, and deliver our nation from every form of evil,” the statement added.
