Oyo police command urges parents to stay vigilant as schools resume

The Oyo State Police Command has urged parents to remain alert as schools reopen, emphasising the importance of knowing teachers, school staff, and the interests of their children.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, the police warned, “The growing incidents of abuse, particularly against girls, are concerning. Stay alert for any warning signs from your children to help protect them before it’s too late.”
They also advised parents to familiarise themselves with school bus drivers and security personnel. Concerns or reports can be directed to the Oyo Police Control Room at +234 808 176 8614.
It can be recalled that on September 15 that across the country, primary and secondary schools resumed for the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session. While some pupils returned to renovated classrooms and improved facilities, others met dilapidated buildings and bushy compounds.
In Oyo State, officials of the Ministry of Education dispelled rumors of a postponement, confirming that schools had reopened in line with the official academic calendar.
Parents and guardians were urged to not only prioritise their children’s academic performance but also their overall safety, both within and outside school premises.
In Lagos, the harmonised calendar showed that the first half of the term would run from September 15 to October 31 (34 days), while the second half would run from November 10 to December 19 (30 days).
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, in a goodwill message to pupils, urged them to embrace learning with zeal.
“On behalf of the Lagos State Government, we extend a warm welcome to all students as we resume for the 2025/2026 academic session. As you return to your classrooms, we encourage you to approach this new session with enthusiasm, dedication, and a thirst for knowledge. May this academic year bring you opportunities for growth, discovery, and excellence,” he said.
