Osun NNPP holds gov primary election December 13

The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has announced December 13, 2025, for its primary election, where its candidate for the 2026 governorship election will be chosen.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Osun NNPP Chairman, Mr Tosin Odeyemi, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday.

Odeyemi said arrangements had been made for a successful primary election.

He declared that the NNPP would not just participate in the next governorship poll but would work hard to emerge victorious at the election.

Giving other details about the party’s activities ahead of the governorship poll, the NNPP chairman said, “We have not less than four aspirants, and many people are still informing us of their interest in joining us.

“The 2026 gubernatorial election will definitely be a different ball game in Osun, as we are set to spring surprises.”

Speaking further on the NNPP’s chances, Odeyemi said the party “is a new bride in Osun, as it is harvesting from the present crises in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the sharp division within the All Progressives Congress due to the allegation of planned imposition of a candidate.

I am so happy that this gubernatorial election is different in Osun. People are now seeing our party as a third force through which they can strive. As we speak, we have not less than four aspirants, and many people are still informing us of their interest in joining us.

“The 2026 gubernatorial election will definitely be a different ball game in Osun. We are set to spring surprises. We are working underneath, and feelers have made us realise that Osun masses are ready to support whoever emerges as our candidate after the December 13, 2025, primary election,” he said.

He urged NNPP members to continue speaking about various programmes aimed at ameliorating the current hardship many Nigerians are grappling with.

Political activities in Osun are on the upswing in preparation for the August 8, 2026, governorship poll.

Some of the parties that will be fielding candidates have slated their primaries for December.

For instance, the APC, the main opposition party in the state, has slated its primaries for December 13.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor of the state, has also been screened by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to contest in the poll.

Already, 13 aspirants have shown interest and informed the Osun APC leadership of their desire to run on its platform.

The aspirants include the Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority, Mr Bola Oyebamiji; ex-Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore; ex-Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Babajide Omoworare; and Mr Dotun Babayemi.

Others are the immediate past Osun Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi; the Chairman, Mutual Assurance Benefits, Akin Ogunbiyi; and a legal practitioner, Kunle Adegoke (SAN).
