Osimhen undergoes successful surgery after Liverpool clash injury
Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen successfully underwent surgery on Monday following an injury sustained during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 away match against Liverpool.
The injury occurred in the second-leg match at Anfield on Match 18, when Osimhen clashed aerially with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté.
The Nigerian international displayed remarkable resilience by attempting to play on with a bandaged arm, but was substituted at halftime as swelling and pain intensified.
Galatasaray ultimately fell to a 4-0 defeat on the night, exiting the competition 1-4 on aggregate.
Confirming the operation in a statement on X, the club stated: “Our player Victor Osimhen, who was injured and unable to continue in our away match against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, underwent a successful operation today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital performed by our club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce.”
The statement added: “We wish our footballer a speedy recovery and hope he returns to the pitch as soon as possible.”
Despite their Champions League exit, Galatasaray will still be relying on Osimhen’s attacking prowess in their pursuit of the Super Lig and domestic cup titles.
He has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season, helping the club to a four-point lead in the league.
He also recorded seven goals and three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League matches before their exit.
Osimhen has been left out of Nigeria’s 23-man squad for this month’s friendly matches against Jordan and Iran, scheduled to be played in Turkey.
