Ondo general hospital not neglected – Govt

Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, has insisted that the General Hospital in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area, is fully functional and adequately staffed, contrary to reports of neglect.
The news had earlier reported that the government-owned facility was grappling with a shortage of personnel and equipment.
But in a statement issued on Tuesday, Ajaka maintained that the hospital was not abandoned, saying it currently operates with a diverse workforce of 138 personnel across critical departments.
According to him, the hospital has seven doctors, three optometrists, two dental officers (one seconded to the Dental Headquarters), 27 nurses, including a Head Nurse Supervisor, seven pharmacy technicians, seven laboratory scientists, and eight laboratory technicians, among others.
“The facility is also powered by solar energy supported by an inverter system, ensuring a sustainable electricity supply to reduce downtime in service delivery,” Ajaka added.
He stressed that the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led administration had been investing in human resources, infrastructure, and medical equipment across secondary health facilities, including Igbara-Oke.
Reassuring residents of Ifedore and neighbouring areas, the commissioner said pregnant women and other patients could access skilled healthcare professionals at the hospital.
Igbara-Oke General Hospital is not a symbol of neglect, but a working healthcare facility staffed with competent personnel who are daily serving the needs of our citizens. We will continue to improve infrastructure and service delivery in line with our vision for a healthier Ondo State,” he said.
