Ondo fixes cut-off marks for public secondary school admission

The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has fixed the cut-off marks for admission into public Junior Secondary Schools across the state for the 2026/2027 academic session.

According to a Tuesday statement signed by Press Officer, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Bisi Lawani, the cut-off marks were based on candidates’ performance in the admission assessment, which was scored over a total of 300 marks.

The ministry stated, “The cut-off marks are based on a total score of 300 marks obtained by candidates in the admission assessment.”

The assessment is a prerequisite for admission into public secondary schools across the state and is aimed at ensuring that only qualified candidates are considered for admission.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, who chaired the meeting, emphasised the importance of the exercise and commended the smooth conduct of the examination.

Ajibefun said the examination was conducted without any major hitch, while the prompt release of the results demonstrated the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a credible and efficient admission process.

He said, “The examination was conducted smoothly and without any major hitch, with the results released promptly.”

The commissioner added that the development underscored the ministry’s commitment to a transparent admission process.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Akindele Ige, said the exercise was designed to promote merit in the admission process.

He said, “The exercise is aimed at fostering a transparent and merit-based admission process that rewards hard work while ensuring that qualified candidates have access to quality secondary education in the State.”

Following the conclusion of the assessment, principals of public secondary schools have been directed to commence the admission process for eligible candidates who meet or exceed the approved cut-off marks.

The ministry also directed the Zonal and Area Education Offices to coordinate the admission process in their respective local government areas.

Parents and guardians were advised to obtain relevant information and guidance on the admission process from the appropriate Education Offices or their children’s respective primary schools.

They were also urged to adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the ministry.
