Olopade promises unforgettable 2027 African School Games

Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has promised that Nigeria will deliver a spectacular 2027 African School Games, after winning the bid ahead of countries like Kenya and South Africa.
Nigeria has officially been awarded the hosting rights for the second edition of the games, which will take place in 2027.
The country finished fourth at the maiden edition, which ended in Algeria on Tuesday.
Team Nigeria ended the first African School Games with an impressive 25 medals, comprising six gold, 10 silver, and nine bronze medals across 10 different sports, behind hosts Algeria, followed by Egypt and Tunisia
In a symbolic moment during the closing ceremony, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa and hosts Algeria formally handed over the host’s flag to Nigeria, signifying the country’s emergence as the official host of the second African School Games in 2027.
This is a huge win for Nigeria and for the future of sports development on the continent. Our successful bid is a testament to the unhinged commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to sports excellence.
“It is also a reflection of the Renewed Hope Mandate, Nigeria is fast returning to glory as the epicentre for sports excellence in Africa, while simultaneously growing our sports economy and en- enhancing our international image as a prime destination for global sporting events. In 2027, Nigeria will deliver an unforgettable experience for young athletes from across the continent.”
According to the NSC, Nigeria’s successful bid was largely influenced by its recent track record of hosting top-tier competitions, such as the third Confederation of African Athletics U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships, and other events, which were widely acclaimed for their exceptional organisation, athlete experience, and facilities.
Olopade further commended ANOCA for the confidence reposed in Nigeria, assuring that preparations will commence immediately to ensure the highest standards
