Ogun State to Make Olumo Rock Nigeria’s Top Tourism Destination

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to make Olumo Rock the best tourism destination in Nigeria.

The governor made this known during an inspection of the Olumo Rock Tourist Center, which attracted over 20,000 visitors in 2024.

According to Governor Abiodun, his administration will now focus on tourism as a deliberate policy to tap into its economic potential.

He noted that tourism is not only a source of income but also a sector that can drive economic growth and development.

The governor cited examples of nations that have transitioned from oil dependence to tourism, with some generating up to 70% of their revenue from tourism.

Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of protecting and preserving tourist sites like Olumo Rock, which represents the deep culture, history, and tradition of Egbaland and Ogun State.

He warned that if the government fails to restore, maintain, and protect these sites, they will depreciate and erode over time.

The governor commended the efforts of those who have maintained Olumo Rock and promised that the site will receive better attention going forward.

He announced plans to develop a strategy to enhance the presentation of Olumo Rock and make it a world-class destination.

This development is part of Governor Abiodun’s administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, social development, and agriculture in Ogun State
