NUC approves postgraduate programmes for Sokoto private open university

The National Universities Commission has approved a Sokoto private institution, Iconic Open University, to commence new postgraduate programmes.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Dr Muhammad Sanusi, on Sunday.

The newly approved postgraduate courses include Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Information Technology, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and Postgraduate Diploma in Information.

Sanusi described the approval as a significant boost to open and distance learning in Nigeria, a move he further added will position the university as a key player in advanced professional education.

He said, “Other approved programmes include Master of International Relations and Diplomacy and the Master of Crime Management and Security Studies, both designed to meet the growing demand for expertise in governance, security, and global affairs.

At the undergraduate level, NUC has also approved B.Ed. in Educational Management and the Bachelor of Environmental Health Science (B.EHS), further expanding the institution’s commitment to diverse academic disciplines.”

According to him, the institution has already established itself as one of the leading institutions in open and distance education, offering a range of programmes in health sciences, technology, management, and the humanities.

The statement described the latest move as a milestone for accessible education and encouraged prospective candidates to visit the university website for details.

“The NUC’s approval underscores the university’s compliance with rigorous academic standards, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for the evolving demands of the workforce,” it added.
