NSCDC loses female officer in Abuja drill accident

A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after being knocked down and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.

NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the incident to on Saturday, describing it as a tragic accident that occurred during a coordinated show-of-force drill.

Footage circulating on social media captured the moment the officer was struck by the vehicle as it made a turn. The vehicle came to a halt after the impact, and colleagues and onlookers immediately rushed to lift it and pull her from underneath. Emergency responders arrived shortly afterward and evacuated the officer, but she was pronounced dead despite efforts to save her life.

Babawale said the NSCDC had immediately activated internal processes following the tragedy.

“It is true we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences,” he stated.

He added that a detailed official statement would be released soon to clarify the circumstances and outline the measures being taken by the agency.

As of Saturday, the identity of the deceased officer had not been publicly released by the NSCDC.
