The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has arrested three suspects for the vandalism of public properties and building structures on government land.
The suspects were apprehended on Monday evening by operatives of the Corps in collaboration with Agunaechemba Security Outfit in Onitsha Local Government Area LGA while vandalising government property on Onitsha South LGA premises.
The Head, Media and Tactical Operations of the NSCDC Command, SC Edwin Okadigbo, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday, while reviewing the operational successes recorded by the Command in the week under review.
Okadigbo said the arrested suspects include Oseloka Anyaorah of Onitsha Umuasi, who claimed to be the Chairman of Ogbo Family, alongside John Nwobodo and Ifeanyi Nwancho, both of whom claimed to be workers of Anyaorah at the site.
According to him, exhibits recovered from the suspects include one government signpost, zinc sheets, nails, and other building materials.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects conspired to damage and remove parts of government infrastructure belonging to Onitsha South LGA. The vandalised items have been recovered and are in the custody of the Corps,” Okadigbo added.
Meanwhile, the NSCDC State Commandant, Olatunde Maku, has condemned the act and described the vandalism of public property as economic sabotage against the government and people of Anambra State
Maku reiterated the Corps’ commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.
He directed that the suspects be profiled and charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
He further called on traditional rulers, town union leaders, and Anambra residents to provide timely information to security agencies to prevent further vandalism of government facilities.
