Niger police neutralise drug lord during face-off

The Niger State Police Command has disclosed that its operatives killed a notorious drug lord known as Bello Mai Danger after he tried to resist arrest during a raid on a drug den in Minna, Niger State.

it was gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday at Barkin Bergar in the Angwan-Daji area of the capital, notorious for drug-related activities.

The police alleged that Bello and his group were the kingpins in the sale and consumption of various psychotropic substances.

Our correspondent learnt that when the drug-dealing gang were alerted of plans to raid their drug den, Bello and his gang dared the security operatives to come, threatening to kill anyone who confronted them.

When security operatives finally stormed the den, other members of the drug syndicate fled upon sighting the operatives. However, Bello remained adamant at the spot and rather launched an offensive attack on the officers, deploying dangerous weapons.

He was also said to have brought out a jackknife and a matchet with which he attacked the operatives and in the process inflicting a serious injury on one of them.

The Niger State Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the incident said the police were met with resistance by the leader of the gang as such he had to be nutralised by the operatives.

According to Abiodun, the suspect inflicted an injury on one of the police team members. They, however, effected the arrest of another suspect.

The Command’s PPRO narrated thus: “On 6th May, 2025 at about 10am, Police operatives of Central Police Division responded to a distress call in Angwan-Daji Minna and in the process of effecting arrest, one Bello Mai-Danger obstructed and attacked the Police team with a knife and cutlass.

“The suspect inflicted an injury on one of the police team members. Consequently, he was neutralised, and one other was arrested.”
