N’Central APC hails Tinubu for appointing Amupitan as INEC chair

The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission

The forum, in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, also praised the National Council of State for endorsing Amupitan’s appointment.

Zazzaga said the Forum was confident that the new INEC Chairman would deliver credible, free and fair elections throughout his tenure.

“The North-Central APC Forum has received with delight and a deep sense of pride the appointment of one of the region’s illustrious sons, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

This development further attests to the calibre of human resources available in the North-Central region, which can be deployed to critical and sensitive roles in the service of national development,” the statement read.

The Forum expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for recognising the competence and integrity of Professor Amupitan, describing him as a “round peg in a round hole.”

“We commend President Bola Tinubu for appointing Professor Amupitan and thank the National Council of State for approving the appointment.

“Professor Amupitan’s track record as an accomplished legal scholar, practitioner, and university administrator demonstrates his capacity for the job — especially as he assumes office at a time when Nigerians are preparing for crucial elections.

“Having followed his distinguished career at the University of Jos, where he has lectured and mentored generations of lawyers and academics for more than three decades, we are confident that he will deliver credible elections across the country,” the Forum stated.

The group further called on Nigerians, particularly stakeholders in the electoral process, to give Amupitan all necessary support to enable him to succeed in his new role.

Professor Amupitan, who hails from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos, specialised in Company Law, Law of Evidence, Corporate Governance and Privatisation Law.

He was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in September 2014, following several years of outstanding service in academia and the legal profession.

Until his appointment as INEC Chairman, he was serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at UNIJOS.

Also, he served as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Joseph Ayo Babalola University in Osun State.
