National Police Day: Gombe command rolls out medical outreach, sanitation, other programmes

The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Chuso, has announced a line-up of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, emphasising the need to strengthen trust between the police and the public.

National Police Day is an annual event organised by the Nigeria Police Force to highlight police reforms, strengthen community engagement, and recognise the contributions of officers to national security.

The 2026 celebration is being coordinated under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who assumed office in February 2026 following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

The event typically features community outreach programmes such as sanitation exercises, medical outreaches, awareness campaigns, and welfare initiatives for families of fallen officers, reflecting the police’s commitment to public safety and institutional accountability.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters on Friday, Chuso said the celebration, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” provides an opportunity to deepen collaboration for a safer society.

“National Police Day 2026 provides a valuable platform to strengthen the relationship between the police and the public, reinforcing our shared responsibility in building a safer society,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that the command, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has scheduled a series of activities aimed at fostering public engagement and promoting safety awareness.

“The Gombe State Police Command has organised a series of events to commemorate National Police Day 2026 and highlight the importance of police-community partnership,” Chuso stated.

He explained that activities will commence on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise from the Central Roundabout to the Gombe Emir’s Palace, alongside a medical outreach at the palace.

According to him, the second day will feature a walkathon starting from the Police Command Headquarters.

“These activities are designed to foster public engagement, promote safety awareness, and enhance mutual trust,” he added.

Chuso further revealed that on April 1, the command will hold public sensitisation programmes at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, focusing on electoral violence, ballot snatching, and safe driving practices.

On April 2, he said the command will present cheques to families of deceased police officers at the Command Headquarters as part of welfare initiatives for personnel and their dependents.

The commissioner noted that the grand finale of the celebration will take place on April 7 at the Eagle Square Parade Ground, Abuja, where the Inspector-General of Police is expected to host dignitaries and stakeholders.

He called on residents and stakeholders to actively participate in the activities.

“I therefore call on members of the public, community leaders, stakeholders, and the media to actively participate in these events. Together, we can strengthen cooperation, deepen trust, and build a safer and more secure Gombe State,” he urged.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment, Chuso stressed that the police in Gombe remain dedicated to professionalism, accountability, and community-oriented policing.

“The Gombe State Police Command remains resolute in its dedication to professional, accountable, and community-oriented policing,” he said.
