National Police Day 2026: Airport command to honour fallen heroes

The Airport Police Command has announced plans to honor the sacrifices of fallen officers as part of the National Police Day 2026 celebrations, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

The Police Public Relations Officer Airport Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mohammed Adeola, posted on X on Friday that the event would also serve as a platform to strengthen ties with the public and foster trust within the aviation community and beyond.

A series of activities has been scheduled to mark the occasion, with the celebrations beginning on Monday, 30th March, with a sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise, followed by a walkathon on Tuesday, 31st March. On Wednesday, 1st April, the Command will carry out public sensitization campaigns, engaging drivers and other key stakeholders within the airport environment.

Families of deceased officers will be honored on Thursday, 2nd April, with the presentation of cheques in recognition of the ultimate sacrifices made by the fallen heroes. The celebrations will culminate on Tuesday, 7th April, at Eagle Square, Abuja, with a grand finale featuring a ceremonial parade, tactical displays, and other activities highlighting police professionalism.

Speaking on the upcoming events, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, said:
“National Police Day gives us the opportunity not only to honor the heroes who have laid down their lives in service but also to inspire a new generation of police officers committed to professionalism and community service.”

She added, “Our engagement with the public is central to effective policing. Through these celebrations, we hope to strengthen the trust and partnership between the Airport Police Command and the communities we serve.”

The Command emphasised that all planned activities align with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, to deepen community partnership and enhance public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

We are fully prepared to participate actively in the National Police Day events.

“This is our chance to demonstrate commitment, honor our heroes, and reinforce the values of service and trust that guide our work every day,” Ogunbode concluded.
