Makinde inaugurates Omituntun ultramodern market in Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming markets across the state, ensuring traders operate in safe and secure environments.

The governor, represented by Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, made the remarks on Monday during the inauguration of the Omituntun Ultramodern Market in Omi Adio, Ibadan.

Makinde noted that the market, featuring 406 lockup shops, 56 open stalls, an administrative office, security post, walkways, toilets, and other facilities, is the fourth ultramodern market commissioned during his two terms.

Previous markets include Akesan Ultramodern Market, Oyo; Akinyele Farmers’ Market, Ibadan; and Kajola Ultramodern Market, Ogbomoso South Local Government.

The idea of building ultramodern markets is important to the government. We intend to replicate this initiative across the state so that traders no longer operate by the roadside,” Makinde said.

He added that allocation of shops would follow a “one-man, one-shop” principle, with displaced traders given the first option.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Demola Ojo, described the project as a testament to the administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for business.

“This market is equipped with shops, open stalls, office complex, sanitation facilities, waste management systems, fire safety installations, parking areas, and security features. Traders must ensure the facility is well-managed to achieve its purpose,” he said.

The Asiwaju of Ido Local Government and Bashorun Bamofin of Ibadanland, Niyi Akintola, praised the administration for transforming the local government area, highlighting projects such as the Ilaju Garri Processing Factory, Ido-Omi Adio Road, Ultra-Modern Motor Park at Owode Housing Estate, and rehabilitation of several key roads.

Ido Local Government Chairman, Sheriff Adeojo, described the unveiling as fulfilling Makinde’s campaign promise and delivering the dividend of democracy to residents.

He urged traders to maximise the opportunity and expressed gratitude to the governor for his people-centered leadership.
