LASG begins free digital skills training for youths
The Lagos State Government has commenced a five-day digital skills training programme for youths in the Badagry and Ikorodu divisions.
The participants, according to a statement obtained by The PUNCH on Wednesday, will receive training in artificial intelligence, information technology and entrepreneurship.
The programme, being implemented by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, began on Monday and will run until September 11 at the Badagry Division Iba ICT Centre, Iba Town, Iba LCDA, and the Homat School of Basic Studies CBT Centre, Igbogbo, Ikorodu.
The statement said the training was designed to combine digital literacy with business and professional skills, including introductory artificial intelligence, information technology, entrepreneurship and emotional intelligence.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, said the programme was aimed at equipping participants with practical skills that would improve their competitiveness in the changing world of work.
Sule spoke during an engagement with facilitators, coordinators, ministry officials and some participants in Ikeja, according to the statement.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Adeniran Kasali, said investment in digital education was necessary to build a workforce capable of competing in a technology-driven economy.
He urged the participants to use the training to develop digital and entrepreneurial skills that could improve their employment prospects and promote self-sustenance.
Kasali also encouraged eligible youths in Badagry and Ikorodu to take advantage of the programme, which is being provided free of charge.
The latest rollout extends the state’s digital training intervention to the Badagry and Ikorodu divisions, as the government seeks to expand access to technology-related skills among young people.
