Lagos threatens to seal Ikorodu markets, plazas over environmental violations

The Lagos State Government has issued Notices of Intention to Seal several markets, plazas, and commercial premises in Ikorodu over non-compliance with environmental regulations, as part of ongoing enforcement activities across the state.

The Waste Investigation, Surveillance, and Enforcement unit of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority carried out routine compliance inspections across selected locations within the Ikorodu axis.

The sites served notices include Ferry Terminal, Ikorodu, No. 6 NBC Road, Ebute, Ikorodu, No. 7 NBC Road, Ebute, Ikorodu, Ominu Ajasa & Royal Family Premises, Ikorodu, Ladega Market, Ikorodu, and Better Life Market, Ikorodu.

A statement shared on the official social media handles of the Lagos State Government on Sunday said, “All affected plazas, markets, and occupants have been granted 72 hours to comply with the notice. Failure to do so will attract appropriate enforcement actions in line with existing regulations.”

The state government noted that the enforcement drive is part of a broader effort to ensure compliance with environmental laws, discourage illegal street trading, and promote proper waste management across Lagos.

“All activities took place within the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State. Keeping Lagos clean is a shared responsibility,” the statement concluded.

Online had report that the state government sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) last Sunday over alleged repeated environmental infractions.
