Lagos LG poll: Ondo police command denies collecting N39,000 to deploy officers

The Ondo State Police Command has denied allegations that it directed Divisional Police Officers in the state to contribute N39,000 each for the deployment of personnel to Lagos State ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, made this known in a statement issued on Friday in Akure, the state capital, dismissing media reports alleging such directives as false and misleading.
He clarified that no officer was ever compelled to make financial contributions in connection with the deployment and that the claim was an unfounded attack on the integrity of the command.
Ayanlade explained that such collaboration between police commands is standard operational procedure and aligns with the IGP’s broader goals of effective policing.
According to him, the deployment strategy reflects the IGP’s commitment to a transparent, accountable, people-centered, and rule of law-compliant police service.
He added that the Ondo State Command had fully complied with the directive, taking full responsibility for logistics and officer welfare.
The Ondo State Police Command, in compliance with this directive, made all necessary logistical and welfare arrangements to ensure a seamless deployment.
A large number of officers have already reported at their assigned posts without any personal financial burden,” Ayanlade noted.
He condemned the publication, describing it as ill-informed and harmful to public trust.
“It is unfortunate that the author of the false report continues to wallow in ignorance of police procedures and has chosen to glorify misinformation instead of seeking the truth.
“His claims are false, unfounded, and unprofessional, aimed only at misleading the public and discrediting the Command’s integrity,” he added.
Ayanlade, therefore, urged members of the public to disregard the publication, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and public service.
