The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, stating that the enforcement operation was carried out between 8am and 10am, covering the stretch from Ladipo Terminal to Pleasure Bus Rapid Transit terminal.
He wrote, “This morning, between 8am and 10am, our enforcement teams carried out a targeted operation along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, covering the stretch from Ladipo BRT Terminal to Pleasure BRT Terminal”
According to him, the individuals were apprehended for constituting public nuisance and engaging in activities that threaten the safety and security of commuters using the pedestrian bridges.
He said, “Seventeen (17) miscreants were arrested on pedestrian bridges within that corridor for constituting public nuisance and engaging in activities that compromise the safety and security of commuters”
He emphasised that pedestrian bridges are critical infrastructure designed to ensure the safe movement of residents and should not be converted into spaces for illegal activities.
“We will not tolerate any individual or group turning public assets into spaces for harassment, extortion, or criminal behaviour,” he stated.
Wahab added that the arrested persons would be processed in accordance with the law.
The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and safety across public infrastructure as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and safer Lagos.
