Kwara begins vaccination of pilgrims ahead of 2026 Hajj
The Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced the vaccination of 1,714 intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj, signalling a major step in preparations for a safe and successful pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the board’s Assistant Press Secretary, Abdulmumeen Sidiq, a copy of which was obtained by PUNCH Online in Ilorin, the state capital.
The vaccination, conducted by the Port Health Services under the leadership of Mrs A.I. Owolabi, includes immunisation against oral polio, meningitis and yellow fever, which are mandatory for all pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia.
Speaking during the exercise, the Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji AbdulKadri Abdulsalam, described the programme as essential to the overall success of the Hajj operation.
The vaccination exercise remains a critical component of our pre-Hajj arrangements, as it is designed to safeguard the health of our pilgrims and prevent the outbreak or spread of infectious diseases during the pilgrimage,” he said.
He added that the board is committed to ensuring that all intending pilgrims meet the required medical standards before departure.
“We are working closely with relevant health authorities to ensure that every pilgrim is properly immunised in line with international best practices and Saudi Arabian entry requirements,” Abdulsalam said.
The executive secretary also urged pilgrims to take the exercise seriously and cooperate fully with health officials.
“We strongly advise all intending pilgrims across the 16 local government areas to present themselves for vaccination promptly and adhere strictly to the guidelines provided, as failure to comply could affect their eligibility to travel,” he said.
Meanwhile, the board has commenced the distribution of uniform materials and travelling bags to the pilgrims as part of its logistical arrangements for the pilgrimage.
“This distribution is aimed at promoting easy identification, ensuring orderliness and providing convenience for our pilgrims throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia,” Abdulsalam added.
He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to a seamless, well-coordinated and hitch-free Hajj exercise.
