Kwankwaso urges calm as violence escalates in Plateau

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has issued a dire warning regarding the escalating violence in Plateau State.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Kwankwaso expressed deep sorrow over the recent attack on the Zike community in Kimakpa, Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of 51 people and the destruction of property.
It is worth recalling that Plateau State has been one of the states most affected by insecurity in recent times, with numerous reported killings across different parts of the state.
The region has experienced a vicious cycle of violence, leading to significant loss of life and property. The unrest has deterred investors, tourists, and visitors, worsening the state’s challenges.
The attack on the Zike community followed the killing of over fifty persons in a series of assaults on five communities within a single week.
The recent surge in violence has heightened concerns about the state’s security situation and the government’s ability to protect its citizens.
Kwankwaso extended his condolences to the government and people of Plateau State, urging authorities to ensure that justice is served by apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.
He stressed that Plateau State must not be allowed to descend once more into widespread violence and destruction, especially after enjoying relative peace in recent years.
He called on the Federal Government to fulfil its constitutional duty of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians nationwide.
He also emphasised the need for the message of peace to be embraced by all residents of the state and beyond.
Kwankwaso’s statement on his Facebook page reads: “I am saddened to learn of the attack on the Zike community, Kimakpa, Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, which resulted in the death of 51 people and the destruction of several properties.
“This tragic attack came after over fifty persons were killed within a week in assaults on five communities in the state. It is important that Plateau State must not be allowed to become a hotbed of violence and wanton destruction again after the relative peace it has enjoyed in recent years.
“The Federal Government must rise to its responsibility to ensure that all lives and properties are protected, and the message of peace should be embraced by everyone in the state and beyond.
“I extend my condolences to the Government and people of Plateau State. I also urge the authorities to ensure that justice is served by bringing the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to book.”
