Kano taskforce sets up committees to fight drug trafficking
The Chairman, Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking, Muhuyi Rimingado, has inaugurated nine subcommittees to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Kano State.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Member, Media and Publicity of the committee, Lamara Garba, on Saturday.
According to the statement, the inauguration took place on Friday, August 21, 2026, with Rimingado charging members of the committees to demonstrate greater commitment, dedication and determination in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Rimingado reminded the subcommittee members of the enormity of the task before them, stressing that the success of the task force would depend largely on the seriousness and commitment with which each committee approached its assignment
He urged members to redouble their efforts, work collectively and remain focused on the objectives of the task force, noting that the fight against drug abuse and trafficking required sustained commitment, effective coordination and a shared sense of responsibility.
“The committees are established to provide a more coordinated and specialised approach to tackling the various dimensions of the drug problem, while ensuring that relevant stakeholders work together towards achieving lasting results,” Rimingado was quoted as saying.
The nine committees inaugurated are Finance, Media and Publicity; Advocacy and Sensitisation; Licences, Inventory and Verification; Compliance, Inspection and Electronic Tracking; Monitoring and Implementation; Intelligence; Reformative and Traditional Council; and Anti-Drug Coordination Committee.
However, the statement listed eight committee names, despite stating that nine committees were inaugurated.
The structure provides for coordinated responsibilities across various areas of intervention.
Rimingado urged the members to see their appointments as a call to service rather than merely an assignment, stressing that the responsibilities placed before them demanded discipline, professionalism and a strong commitment to the collective interest.
He further encouraged the committees to maintain effective collaboration and ensure that their activities translated into concrete results in the ongoing campaign against drug abuse and trafficking.
The inauguration marks another step in the efforts of the Multi-Agency Task Force to strengthen institutional coordination and broaden the response to drug-related challenges in the state.
