Jigawa NSCDC arrests man over stolen aluminium cable
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State has arrested a scrap dealer, Muhd Adamu, with 267 metres of stolen aluminium cable, valued at approximately N573,300.
Arewa PUNCH recalls that the NSCDC Jigawa State Command only recently arrested several individuals involved in livestock rustling and vandalism of power supply facilities in an operation carried out to rid the state of criminal elements, urging law-abiding citizens to cooperate with the agency.
According to a statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Monday by the Public Relations Officer, NSCDC, Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at about 1500hrs.
“The suspect, Muhd Adamu, a 50-year-old scrap seller from Maruwa town in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arrested at his house,” ASC Mahmud said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the cable was allegedly brought to the suspect’s house for safekeeping by two accomplices, Sani and Auwalu, who are currently at large.
ASC Mahmud stated that the suspect is presently in custody, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplices and bring them to justice.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Jigawa State Command, has warned individuals involved in vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure to desist from such illegal activities or face the full weight of the law.
Individuals involved in vandalism will face severe consequences,” ASC Mahmud quoted the Commandant as saying.
However, the Commandant urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities around public infrastructure to security agencies.
Therefore, he reassured the public of NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure and maintaining the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
Mahmud emphasised the importance of public cooperation in the fight against vandalism and other crimes.
“The NSCDC is working closely with other security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice,” he assured the public.
“The arrest demonstrates the NSCDC’s commitment to curbing vandalism and protecting national assets,” said ASC Badruddeen Tijjani.
The Jigawa NSCDC spokesperson stressed that “the NSCDC will continue to take decisive action against those involved in vandalism, don’t expect any leniency.”
