Insecurity: Abiodun meets security chiefs to safeguard Ogun
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Monday convened a meeting with security chiefs in the state to assess the level of security and strengthen preparedness measures.
In a post on X, Abiodun said he met with the “security chiefs in Ogun State today to assess the level of security in the state and the country as it relates to us.
“As we often say, the best time to prepare for war is during a time of peace.
“Ogun State is currently regarded as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, if not the most peaceful, and it is important that we continue to protect and sustain that standing.”
The governor stressed that maintaining Ogun’s peaceful status requires proactive action.
It was stated that such regular engagements with security chiefs are crucial in preventing threats from escalating, especially as insecurity intensifies in other parts of the country.
He further noted, “To maintain this position, we must stay proactive, strengthen our preparedness, and put in place the right measures to mitigate anything that could threaten our peace and stability.
This is not the first meeting of its kind, but it is a particularly important one, which is why we convened it today.”
Abiodun added that these discussions are part of a broader effort to keep Ogun State safe and secure for all residents.
“These formed part of our remarks as we engaged with the service chiefs this morning, reaffirming our shared commitment to keeping Ogun State safe, peaceful, and secure for all,” he added.
The meeting comes amid rising attacks by suspected terrorists and bandits across Nigeria.
Last Friday, bandits abducted 215 students and 12 teachers from St Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State.
By Sunday, 50 of the students were confirmed to have escaped.
This followed the abduction of 26 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi, just four days earlier.
In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRazaq announced the release of 38 people abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
