In Id-El-Kabir message, Fubara gives another hint, says ‘steps are being taken to stabilize governance

Sim Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, has again given another big hint of things to expect very soon. This time, he has assured that ‘steps are being taken to stabilize governance’.

This is being understood to mean that democracy is around the corner after more than two months in the initial six months of state of emergency.

Gov Fubara had recently urged his followers to ‘turn the next page’, something understood to mean they should drop agitation against state of emergency and attacks on the presidency and embrace his new leaf of praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and cessation of attacks on FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

In his Id-El-Kabir message to the Muslim community in Rivers State, Gov Fubara reassured citizens that: “ongoing steps are being taken to stabilize governance and revive the economy.” He pledged that their concerns will be addressed with practical solutions. Political solutions may mean the visits he is said to have paid to both President Tinubu and Wike where he being said to have begged. He seems to understand that his new approach appears to be sour grape in his supporters’ mouth.

The Governor however called for continued prayers for the peace and progress of Rivers State. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of all residents.

He called on Muslims in Rivers State and across the world to reflect on the powerful values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith as they mark the holy celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid-al-Adha.

He said the festival commemorates the deep devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who he said was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. “It is observed globally with solemn prayers, animal sacrifices, and the sharing of meat with family, friends, and especially the less fortunate.”

In his message, according to Nelson Chukwudi, his Chief Press Secretary, Gov Fubara encouraged Muslims to use the occasion as an opportunity to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity, especially at a time when Nigeria faces serious challenges from insecurity and economic difficulties.

He stressed that forgiveness, compassion, and unity were central to the teachings of the festival, and urged the faithful to act on these values in their daily lives.

The Governor, speaking on behalf of his wife and family, encouraged the Muslim community to recommit themselves to the principles of sacrifice, faith, and obedience, values he described as critical to building a stable and united society. He emphasized that without a shared vision and determined action, meaningful progress cannot be achieved.

Reflecting on recent times, Governor Fubara acknowledged the patience and sacrifices made by the people in support of the state’s growth. He admitted that while many aspirations remain unmet due to political challenges, notable achievements have still been recorded.

Meanwhile, Ibok ete Ibas, Rivers State Sole Administrator, has also saluted Muslims. He said: “On this blessed occasion of Eid al-Adha, I warmly felicitate with all Muslim faithful across our beloved state.

“Eid al-Adha is a time for reflection, gratitude, and renewal of faith, unity, and compassion. It commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and obedience, reminding us of the virtues of love, peace, and brotherhood that this special day signifies.

“I urge everyone to celebrate responsibly, with kindness and consideration for one another, and to continue fostering harmony and understanding within our diverse society. May this Eid bring abundant blessings, happiness, and good health to you and your loved ones.

As we mark this auspicious occasion, let us pray for continued peace, prosperity, and unity in Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.

Eid Mubarak!”
