Herders/farmers clashes: Group urges urgent action against insecurity in Nigeria

A pressure group with members from across the country, The Nigeria People’s Project (PPP), has voiced serious concerns about the future of the younger generation amidst insecurity in Nigeria.
The group, in a statement made available to Vanguard on Sunday by its chairman, Lateef Gbenga Ganiyu, and secretary, James Jibrin, respectively, expressed its worries regarding the ongoing herders-farmers clashes, stating, “Many farmers lose their ancestral lands, and even people in urban areas lose huge resources in the hands of bad elements such as banditry and kidnappers.”
They emphasized that these issues had persisted without resolution until the current administration took office.
The PPP commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its appointments, noting that “most of his appointments are fair and for credible hands, especially for service chiefs.”
The group particularly praised the Chief of Defence Staff for his “tremendous efforts and boldness in crushing terrorists,” which they believe has been crucial in addressing the security crisis.
The PPP called for unity among citizens, saying, “we’re going to emphasise unity amongst and harmony.”
They urged that “the securities should work sincerely to ensure this coming raining season, farmers should go to farms without fear of banditry and other criminal elements,” adding that this call to action reflects their desire for a safer environment for agricultural activities.
The group, however, highlighted the importance of leveraging the experience and expertise of security forces, stating that “with the security expert and experienced by the Chief of Defence Staff, there should be more efforts to bring an end to this menace.”
The PPP then concluded with a message of hope, affirming its commitment to advocating a safer Nigeria. It stated, “They remain dedicated to supporting initiatives that foster security and stability throughout the nation.”
