Havertz picks Champions League final goal as favourite Arsenal strike

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has described his goal in last season’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain as his favourite since joining the club, despite the eventual defeat.

Havertz made the disclosure on Friday during an “Ask Me Anything” session published on Arsenal’s official website, recalling the emotions he experienced after scoring in the final.

The German put Arsenal ahead with the first shot of the game, scoring after just six minutes against PSG.

Although Arsenal went on to lose the final, Havertz said the moment remained the best feeling he had experienced on a football pitch.

The Champions League final, even though we lost the game, I feel like I never had a feeling like this before in my life,” Havertz said.

“The emotional feeling after I scored the goal, after the celebration, the goosebumps, it was just incredible. In that minute, I think that was the best I’ve ever felt in my life on a football pitch, so I think that was my favourite one.”

Havertz also named his goal against Burnley on the final day of last season as his second favourite Arsenal goal.

He scored the winning goal against Burnley as Arsenal secured the Premier League title, making it the final goal of the campaign before the club celebrated winning the league.

“My second favourite is definitely the one against Burnley, when we won the Premier League, the last goal of the season before we won it. These two definitely are always going to be in my heart,” he said.

Havertz has continued his strong form into the new season, scoring in three of Arsenal’s first four competitive matches.

He scored against Manchester City in the Community Shield before finding the net against Coventry City and Chelsea, putting him level with captain Martin Odegaard as Arsenal’s leading scorer so far this season.

Havertz joined Arsenal from Chelsea in 2023 and has since become a key part of the club’s attack.
