Four traders killed in Plateau buried
The corpses of four traders killed by hoodlums along the Jos-Pankshin highway in Plateau State have been recovered and buried in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The victims, residents of Yandoya community in Jos North Local Government Area, reportedly travelled weekly to Pankshin to sell shoes.
They were buried Monday evening at Sabon Anguwa cemetery in Barkin Ladi town.
Security sources said the burial was held far from the victims’ communities to prevent brewing tension in the area following the killings.
Danjuma Ibrahim, youth leader of the Muslim community in Barkin Ladi, confirmed the news of the burial to our correspondent.
He said, “Earlier Monday afternoon, we were contacted that the corpses of the traders would be brought to us in Barkin Ladi for burial.
We later received them and performed the funeral. It was done here in Barkin Ladi to douse tension in Jos.
“The traders were six but two escaped the attack. We buried four. We are calling on people in the state to remain calm and law-abiding.”
“We are also calling on the government and security agencies to do the needful to bring an end to the growing violence in all affected communities,” the youth leader added.
