First Christmas in years without church attacks, CAN president tells Tinubu
Daniel Okoh, president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), says Christians across the country marked their first Christmas in many years without recorded attacks on churches.
Okoh remarked on Friday while speaking to journalists after leading a delegation of Christian leaders on a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos.
According to him, the visit was aimed at appreciating the president and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their efforts in supporting citizens and promoting national growth.
“This visit by the leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria to the home of President Bola Tinubu and his wife, the mother of the nation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is to appreciate them for what they are doing, providing for the poor and being committed to moving Nigeria forward,” Okoh said.
He also commended the administration’s recent security measures, noting their impact on peaceful celebrations across the country.
And of course, the recent efforts they are making to ensure every Nigerian lives in peace in this country,” he said.
“It is something that we are so happy about. I can tell you; this Christmas happens to be the first in many years that we were not woken up to phone calls to say this church was attacked, and it is a testimony that we must share.”
Okoh expressed optimism that the peace would be sustained, adding that CAN remains committed to working with the federal government.
“And we hope and pray that it will continue. We are also here to pledge our commitment to continue to work with the president for the progress and development of our country; Nigeria,” he said.
Culled from punch.
