Ekiti NUJ decorates Oyebanji’s wife as grand patron, honours others

The State Information Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, has decorated the wife of the state governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji as its grand patron.

The union also honoured the Chief Executive Officer of Syriton Nigeria Limited, Engr. Samuel Adediji, for his remarkable contributions to infrastructural development across the state.

The chapel presented awards of excellence to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oyebanji Filani; the Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service, Olaniran Olatona; and several others.

These recognitions formed part of activities marking the chapel’s Press Week and Award Night held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Information Chapel, Wale Obelewaji, said Engr. Adediji’s award was in acknowledgment of his exceptional contributions to the engineering sector and to infrastructural growth within and outside Ekiti State. He noted that through Syriton Nigeria Limited, Adediji had played a key role in ensuring the durability and quality of road projects across various communities.

In his response, Engr. Adediji thanked the NUJ Information Chapel for the recognition, reaffirming his commitment to delivering high-quality road infrastructure in Ekiti and beyond. He also appreciated the support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the Ekiti RAAMP Coordinator, Sunday Adunmo, for their confidence in his expertise.

“I am very elated and feel a strong sense of belonging. This recognition motivates me to do even more, and we will not relent as our work has not gone unnoticed,” he said.

After her decoration as Grand Patron, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the chapel and charged Information Officers in the state to uphold the highest levels of professionalism. She urged them to resist the politicization of official communication, especially when addressing misinformation.

She emphasized that accuracy, responsibility, and digital engagement must remain central to public communication.

“In moments of silence, journalists give the people a voice; in moments of uncertainty, they provide clarity. Ekiti is blessed with professionals who understand the power of truth and the duty of fairness.

“You are the bridge between the government and the governed; the guardians of truth and the mirror that reflects our collective progress. Your work shapes public perception, guides policy direction, and strengthens the social fabric of our dear state,” she said.
