Ekiti 2026: PDP aspirant, Obafemi, promises free education at all levels

Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, an aspirant from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obafemi, has promised to ensure free education at all levels if elected governor.

He explained that he has plans and programmes designed to change the narrative in the state and improve the lives and livelihoods of its residents.

Obafemi spoke in Ikole-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of the state, during a visit to the traditional ruler and other stakeholders in the community.

The PDP chieftain, who expressed regret over the state of education under the All Progressives Congress-led government, added that education has allegedly been taken away from the reach of the common man.

Highlighting the state’s recent performance in external examinations, Obafemi noted that he has designed a template to make life more bearable for the citizens when given the opportunity to lead.

The aspirant, who expressed optimism about securing the PDP’s ticket ahead of the election, said that the opposition party would do everything possible to reclaim the state from the ruling APC.

According to him, “If I am governor, I will give Ekiti children and youths free education from primary to tertiary levels; the money is there, and it will be put to use judiciously. The era of parents struggling to pay their children’s school fees will be gone.”

He added that the poor condition of some roads in the state has contributed to the insecurity recorded in the region.

“My own Amotekun will not be in the town but will rather be in the forest, mounting 24-hour surveillance on our borders to put a stop to the menace of herdsmen, bandits, and kidnappers.

“It is unheard of that a state like Ekiti will allow miscreants to torment its citizens despite the resources and manpower available to us. I will not allow that as governor,” he said.

The people of Ikole-Ekiti, who turned out in large numbers to welcome him and his entourage, accompanied him to the palace of Oba Aderemi Fasiku, the Elekole of Ekiti.

The traditional ruler and his chiefs heartily welcomed Obafemi, describing him as a respected and illustrious son of the town. The traditional council, while praying for him, declared that the ancient kingdom of Ikole is solidly behind his ambition.

Obafemi commended the people for their peaceful reception and support, stating that he aspires to be a governor who will be remembered for making a meaningful impact on the lives of the people.
