Eid-el-Kabir: Kano police enforce Durbar ban

The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its ban on all forms of durbar activities across the state during the forthcoming 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The police cited ongoing security threats and intelligence reports indicating plans to disrupt public peace as reasons for the ban.
The command reiterated the ban on horse or animal riding, car racing, reckless or dangerous driving, and warned against the unlawful possession or public display of firearms and weapons, or any suspicious or dangerous objects capable of triggering panic.
A statement issued on Tuesday said, “Acting on credible intelligence, the command, in collaboration with all security agencies in the state, pronounced a total ban on all forms of durbar activities throughout the state, as part of our collective commitment to sustaining peace and security.”
The power struggle between Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and the deposed Emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has heightened fears of unrest during traditional events in the ancient city.
Due to escalating security concerns amid these tensions and the risk of violence between rival factions, the police imposed a ban on the Durbar procession to maintain peace and prevent potential clashes in the volatile atmosphere surrounding the emirship dispute.
The police congratulated Muslim faithful and law-abiding residents of the state on the Sallah festivities and urged them to celebrate peacefully and remain security-conscious.
The statement emphasised that the ban, which was initially imposed during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, remained in force due to persisting security concerns.
It disclosed that miscreants and their alleged sponsors were planning to hijack the traditional festival to foment trouble and destabilise the state.
It added that the threats identified during the last Eid celebration, though subjected to stringent checks, were still considered potent, prompting the continuation of the ban.
The police further outlined key security guidelines for residents and worshippers during the festive period, warning against any action that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
“Parents and guardians are advised to warn their children and wards against being used by subversive elements, as security agencies have been mandated to enforce the law to the letter.
“Members of the public are warned to desist from any act or conduct that may likely cause a breach of the peace or breakdown of law and order,” the command said.
The police further called for prayers for the state, the nation, and the families of athletes who lost their lives recently while returning from the National Sports Festival.
As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us pray for the state, the nation and the state’s athletes who lost their lives on their way back from the National Sports Festival,” the statement concluded.
