Easter: Navy commander urges personnel to keep sacrificing

Naval officers and ratings in the Niger Delta region have been urged to continue to make sacrifices for the nation and their host communities.

The Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, gave the charge on Sunday while hosting personnel of the naval base alongside media executives as part of activities marking the Easter celebration.

Speaking on the significance of the season, Tasiu described Easter as a period that reflects sacrifice, love, and forgiveness, noting that these virtues align with the responsibilities of naval personnel.

“In the spirit of Easter, which is about sacrifice, love, and forgiveness, my message to officers, ratings, and civilian staff of NNS Delta is that we should continue to sacrifice for our dear nation, for the Nigerian Navy, and for one another.

We should also sacrifice for the immediate communities — the civilians we serve. Our job is one of sacrifice because while others are asleep, we are out there ensuring they sleep safely.

“Our personnel work tirelessly to ensure that businesses and commercial activities operate smoothly. This profession demands a high level of sacrifice, and we must continue to give our best for the country,” he stated.

The naval commander also expressed appreciation to host communities for their support in tackling insecurity and infrastructural vandalism in the region

He emphasised the importance of sustaining ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft and other criminal activities within the Niger Delta’s territorial waters, while reiterating the Navy’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with private security outfits.

Tasiu further urged members of the host communities to continue providing credible information that would assist the Navy in protecting critical national assets.

“We appreciate the continuous support of our host communities, as it has made our job easier. We hope they will sustain this cooperation, while we remain committed to supporting them and improving the safety and well-being of people in the Niger Delta and the country at large,” he said.
