Billions of Naira lost as fire destroys factory in Nnewi

NNEWI— Property and goods worth billions of naira were destroyed on Wednesday in a factory located in Abubor Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The fire reportedly started in the early hours, around 5:50 a.m., ravaging production machines, office equipment, vehicles, and both finished and in-progress products, including highly flammable items such as pampers and tissue papers.

An eyewitness, Mr. Obinna Okoye, a resident near the factory, said the fire caught them by surprise as most people were still asleep. He commended the swift response of firefighters who rushed to the scene.

“The fire service men are still trying to put off the fire. You know how inflammable pampers and tissue papers can be,” he said.

Confirming the incident, Mr. Jeremiah Anwuobi, Commander of the Fire Service in charge of Nnewi Zone F Machine Parts, stated that the fire had been brought under control. He added that no casualties were recorded, although the cause of the fire remains unknown.

A staff member in the company’s Audit Department, Mr. Chikelu Edwin, described the fire as mysterious, noting that there was no electricity supply in the section where the fire started, leaving employees puzzled about how the inferno began.
