Bauchi police warns manpower, arms shortages limit operations

The Bauchi State Police Command has identified shortages of personnel, arms, and ammunition as major constraints affecting its ability to tackle criminal activities across the state. Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, disclosed this on Thursday while hosting Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Vungmoh Kwaimo, at the command headquarters.

“At this point, it is pertinent to inform the Assistant Inspector-General of Police on a few pressing concerns affecting the command’s operational capabilities.

“The shortage of manpower is affecting deployment and our ability to respond swiftly, particularly in the light of increasing security threats across the state,” Aliyu said.

He added that additional personnel and reinforcement of the command’s workforce were urgently needed, alongside more arms and ammunition to support ongoing operations combating crime.

Responding, Kwaimo commended the command’s achievements, acknowledging the concerns and pledging to escalate them to the appropriate authorities.

“We will examine the challenges highlighted by the commissioner of police, particularly the issues of manpower shortages and other operational constraints, and do our best to address them,” he said.

Kwaimo also stressed that discipline, accountability, and professionalism must guide policing, highlighting the importance of community engagement, intelligence gathering, and the use of technology in modern security operations.
