APC, PDP clash over Aiyedatiwa’s performance

The Ondo State chapters of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday clashed over the performance of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in his first 100 days in office.
While the APC hailed the governor’s strides, the PDP accused him of running what it described as an “illegal government” over his alleged failure to constitute a full cabinet.
Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as governor on February 23, 2025, following the death of his predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
He was subsequently elected for his first full term on November 16, 2024.
In a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbagbo, the PDP alleged that the governor had violated Section 192(6) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates the appointment of commissioners within 60 days of assumption of office.
“The PDP wishes to express its utmost displeasure against Governor Aiyedatiwa over his continued lack of transparency in governance, which accounts for his refusal to properly constitute his cabinet in the last 90 days.
Apart from the fact that the governor is already running afoul of the law, he has equally failed the moral test of inclusive governance, which is the hallmark of participatory democracy.”
In a swift response, the APC described the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
The party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, said the PDP’s accusations were an attempt to distract the administration from its focus on delivering good governance.
“APC rejects the baseless allegations made by the PDP regarding the governance of our state under the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa.
“The governor has fulfilled the constitutional provision regarding the appointment of members of his cabinet upon assuming office. He has already appointed key cabinet members who are currently engaged in critical governance work,” the APC said.
The party added that more appointments were underway and would be made with careful consideration to ensure inclusiveness and competence.
