Air Peace warns of flight delays over fuel shortage
Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has alerted passengers to possible flight delays across its network due to ongoing aviation fuel supply constraints, saying the situation has begun to affect scheduled departures.
In a statement on X signed by its management on Saturday, the airline said limited availability of Jet A1 fuel was impacting operations at some terminals, urging customers to expect disruptions.
“Flights departing from some of our terminals may experience delays due to the current aviation fuel supply constraints affecting flight operations nationwide,” the airline said, noting that “fuel availability remains limited, which has impacted scheduled departures.”
Air Peace said it is engaging with relevant partners to address the situation and reduce inconvenience to passengers.
We are actively engaging with relevant partners to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible and minimise disruptions to your travel plans,” the statement added, assuring customers that safety remains its top priority.
The development follows an earlier adjustment to the airline’s international operations, where it announced a temporary reduction of its Abuja–London service to three weekly flights due to the same fuel constraints.
According to the airline, the adjustment will remain in place until July 1, 2026, after which full flight frequency is expected to resume.
This measure is necessary to maintain the highest standards of safety and operational reliability during this period,” the airline said, adding that it is working with stakeholders and will restore full operations as supply improves.
Passengers affected by the schedule changes were advised to contact the airline’s call centre for rescheduling at no additional cost.
The fuel supply challenges have also triggered reactions from some passengers, with complaints emerging on social media over delays and disrupted travel plans.
Reality TV personality Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, also expressed frustration, saying the disruption affected her plans to attend the wedding of fellow former Big Brother Naija star Cross Okonkwo in Abuja.
In a video shared online, she criticised the airline over prolonged delays, saying passengers were kept waiting for hours without a clear resolution.
“For someone to book a first flight in the morning, it shows how important it is… They’re telling me the next flight is by 3:30. This is my best friend’s wedding,” she said.
Air Peace, however, maintained that it is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to operating flights safely and as promptly as conditions allow.
