Agbekoya vows action over Oyo farmers’ killing

The Agbekoya Society of Nigeria has threatened to take action against gunmen in the South-West region following the killing of three farmers in a fresh attack in Igboho, Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.

A Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, had raised the alarm over the farmers’ deaths in Igboho, his hometown.

Adeyemo, in a statement issued in Ibadan, called on President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to address what he described as growing insecurity in rural communities across Oyo State and other parts of the South-West to avert further violence and chaos.

According to Adeyemo, the victims were identified as Aderoju Mukaila, Olawuwo Saka and Ojeniyi Ojebayo.

However, the ASN, in a statement made available on Saturday by the society’s Secretary General, Adegbenro Ogunlana, and signed by its President General, Kamorudeen Okikiola, expressed shock over the killing of the three farmers.

The society said it would not be silenced by violence and intimidation, adding that it remained united in demanding justice and security for farmers.

The statement read, “We urge the authorities to take urgent measures to protect farmers and ensure their safety. Failure to do so will be met with severe consequences, and Agbekoya will not hesitate to take necessary action to defend its members and communities.

We condemn this heinous act of violence and demand immediate action from the Oyo State and Federal Governments to bring the perpetrators to justice. The senseless killing of these innocent farmers is unacceptable and highlights the escalating insecurity in our communities.

“We demand immediate investigation and prosecution of those responsible, enhanced security measures to protect farmers and communities, and support for the families of the victims.”
