Adeleke unveils new flyover, warns Osun residents against street trading, vandalism

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday, said his administration had completed over 300 kilometres of intra city roads across the state since coming on board.

The governor disclosed this in Osogbo, Osun State at the official commissioning of the Lameco Flyover Bridge, a project executed by his administration.

Adeleke, who commended the residents for the patience they exhibited during the period of construction due to disruption in traffic flow, also lauded contractors and workers that handled the project for delivering quality infrastructure on schedule.

He further said the flyover and other mega projects, were implemented in accordance with due process, transparency and without mortgaging the further of the state

“The high quality of this flyover confirms the workability of our local content model. We have proven to the whole world that our local engineers can perform to world class standards. The Lameco Flyover is proof that when resources and people are well managed, good governance is the outcome.

“I am glad to bring to our attention that our administration has completed over 27km length of intracity roads in Osogbo. Across the state, we have executed over 300 kilometres of roads. We have over 10 mega projects completed and ready for commissioning.

“We positively touch all major towns under our motto of equity and fairness in infrastructure innovation,” the governor said.

He charged the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and community stakeholders to protect the infrastructure, saying there should be no street trading on the bridge or underpass.

He added, “There should be no vandalisation of railing or light. Let us own it, keep it clean and maintain it for the next generation.
Our drivers and commuters must drive responsibly. This bridge was built to save lives, not to endanger them.”

In his goodwill message, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, described the project as strategic, saying it will not only ease human and vehicular movement within Osogbo metropolis,  but will further enhance socio-economic activities of the town.

The PUNCH reports that the State Government, announced the temporary closure of all roads leading to the newly constructed Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo ahead of the official commissioning of the project on Wednesday.

The announcement was contained in a public notice issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Bashir Bello.

“This temporary road closure is to ensure orderliness, public safety, and smooth coordination during the official commissioning ceremony of landmark projects executed by Governor Ademola Adeleke, with the event headlined by the commissioning of the five-span Lameco Overhead Bridge,” the statement read.
