73-year-old Adamawa man regains sight after treatment

A hydropower energy company called Mainstream Energy Solutions has treated over 500 people suffering from different eye problems in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
The medical technical officer of the company Salisu Dabban, said on Saturday during their medical outreach that they were invited to Adamawa State by one of their subsidiary companies, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company to provide free medical assistance to their host community.
He said that the medical outreach is part of the company’s social responsibility to the public.
Dabban explained, “The outreach commenced with screening and glasses dispensing on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th September 2025.
Free surgeries were conducted between 19th and 20th September 2025, and over 500 glasses have been dispensed while over 1,014 persons were examined and medication administered to them.”
The technical officer further disclosed that 45 surgeries were successfully carried out on Friday and that the surgery exercise continued on Saturday.
“The project is the first of its kind by any corporate body in Adamawa state.
All services rendered are completely free of charge,” he stressed.
Dabban pointed out that a 20-member team comprising ophthalmologists and theatre nurses are executing the project.
He highlighted that some of the surgeries carried out included cataract and pterygiums operations.
He explained further that YEDC is a company under Quest Electricity, a subsidiary of MESL.
Some of the patients interviewed expressed delight over the free medical services offered to them by the power company.
Mr Joseph kwada, a 73-year-old retired civil servant, told our correspondent that the free medical outreach has impacted his life positively, especially since he could not afford to pay for the medical bill after going for the surgery.
Another patient, Hajiya Aishatu Umar, said that she hid herself indoors for 12 years because of her poor eyesight, but now the situation has changed since she has now regained her sight through the free medical outreach.
