As the 2027 governorship election draws closer in Ogun State, the Yayi Progressive Movement (YPM) has unveiled a comprehensive grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at galvanising support across the state for the emergence of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) as the next governor.
YPM, described as a political support organisation, is dedicated to promoting the progressive ideals of Senator Adeola and working toward the realisation of his gubernatorial ambition in 2027.
Speaking during a press briefing held on Friday in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital, the General Coordinator of the movement, Comrade Akeem Akilo, commended the group’s convener, Hon. Abidemi Bada popularly known as 'Empress' in Ogun political circle for her unwavering commitment and leadership.
Akilo described Bada as a visionary and passionate leader whose dedication to the state’s development inspired the formation of YPM. He emphasised that the movement’s vision and strategic direction stand out among similar political platforms in the state.
While acknowledging the outstanding performance of the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON in infrastructure and economic development, with special mention of the Gateway International Airport project, Akilo noted that Ogun State needs a competent and visionary successor to sustain and expand these achievements.
“As 2027 approaches, we believe Ogun State deserves a tested and capable leader who can build on the solid foundation laid by the present administration. That is why YPM stands firmly behind Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the best choice to lead our dear state into a new era of growth and development.”
He further outlined the movement’s strategic objectives, which include the establishment of active YPM structures in all local government areas and wards by December 2025, and achieving 40% youth and women inclusion in leadership positions by 2026.
“We will also intensify political education and voter sensitisation across the state, while promoting capacity-building and mentorship programmes to groom future leaders,” he added.
At the event, several political stakeholders present delivered goodwill messages commending the movement’s structured approach and its emphasis on grassroots inclusiveness.
The meeting concluded with a collective call for coordinated mobilisation, active participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise, and unity among all progressive forces in Ogun State.
