We were stripped naked, abandoned in bush – Ondo kidnap victi

One of the three health workers abducted from the Comprehensive Primary Health Centre at Oke Ijebu area of Akure, Ondo State, has recounted her ordeal at the hands of armed bandits on Saturday morning.

The health worker, Omolabake Kayode, who survived the attack, said the bandits struck the government-owned facility at about 2am, arriving in a bus and forcefully dragging her and two colleagues away while other staff on duty fled for their lives.

“They came in a bus, barged into the centre, and grabbed us. Some of my colleagues ran and hid inside the toilets, but the attackers dragged them out, beat them, and collected their phones,” she said while speaking with our correspondent on Saturday in Akure.

Omolabake described how the bandits transported them to a bush along the Akure-Ondo expressway, stripped them naked, and accessed their bank accounts to transfer all their money.

They told us to lie down and demanded our bank codes and app details. They transferred everything from all our accounts, collected our phones, naked us and warned us not to raise our heads, saying they would kill us.

After a while, they drove off and left us naked in the bush. My shirt fell off, so I picked it and wore it. We were terrified for our lives,” she narrated.

After some time, Kayode and her colleagues managed to walk to a nearby correctional service facility in Olokuta, where they reported the incident to officers, who then contacted Amotekun operatives for rescue.

We were scared, but we had to keep moving. The officers contacted Amotekun, and that’s how we were rescued,” she said.

The Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that the three health workers were rescued around 4:30am on Saturday and were receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility.

Adeleye also confirmed the rescue of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son, who were abducted on Friday evening at Pelebe community along Oda Road in Akure and rescued after a confrontation with the kidnappers.
