UNIBEN secures full NUC accreditation for degree programmes

The management of the University of Benin has said that for the first time in many years, all degree programmes offered by the institution have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission.

This was contained in a statement released on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Benedicta Ehanire.

The feat follows the successful accreditation exercise conducted by the Commission in October/November last year across Faculties, Schools and Centres in the university.

The NUC recently released the result of the accreditation exercise in a letter dated April 7, 2026, addressed to the Vice Chancellor.

Excited by the outcome, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, attributed the stellar performance to hard work and the commitment of management and staff to academic distinction while promoting high educational ideals and values.

The Vice Chancellor applauded the university’s Senate, faculties, departments and relevant committees who worked assiduously, with the objective of ensuring due diligence and adherence to the requirements for full accreditation.

Omoregie reiterated his commitment to strengthening the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes as outlined in his five-point agenda.

The statement said, “For the first time in many years, all degree programmes offered by the University of Benin have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“The feat follows the successful accreditation exercise conducted by the Commission in October/November last year across Faculties, Schools and Centres in the University. The NUC recently released the result of the accreditation exercise in a letter dated 7th April, 2026, addressed to the Vice Chancellor.

“The full accreditation status of the University is for five years (till 2030).”
