Troops foil attack on Plateau community, arrest two suspects

Troops of Operation Safe Haven have foiled an attack by gunmen on Teagbe community in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, arresting two suspects in the process.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Officer of OPSH, Major Samson Zhakom, and made available to newsmen in Jos.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, comes barely two weeks after gunmen attacked the nearby communities of Zike and Kimakpa in the same Bassa LGA, leaving scores dead and properties, including homes and farmlands, destroyed.

“Troops of OPSH have foiled a criminal attack on Teagbe village in Bassa LGA,” Zhakom said. “The attack, which occurred on April 23, was resisted by our troops who swiftly responded to a distress call from residents of the community.

According to Zhakom, the troops immediately mobilised to the area, made contact with the assailants—who fled toward an adjoining high ground—and neutralised one of the attackers during a gun duel.

He added that further combing of the surrounding area led to the arrest of two suspects, who are currently undergoing interrogation.

In a separate operation, Zhakom said troops also neutralised three suspected armed robbers along the Katnan-Buratali Road in the Kadarko District of Wase LGA.

A locally fabricated pistol was recovered from the scene,” he added.

The OPSH reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Plateau and its environs, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
