Tragedy As Woman, Daughters Die After Jumping Into River

A 34-year-old woman and her two young daughters have lost their lives after jumping into a river in India.
The deceased were identified as Jis Mol Thomas, wife of Jimmy Thonnanmavunkal, and their two daughters, five-year-old Neha and two-year-old Ponnu. The incident took place at Pulikunnu near Ettumanoor around 1.30 p.m on Tuesday, April 15.
Preliminary reports suggest that the woman, along with her children, reached the riverbank on her motorbike and entered the river through a bathing ghat.
The incident came to light when locals noticed a body floating in the water. In the search that followed, the remaining two bodies were also recovered by local residents.
Upon receiving an alert, a police team reached the spot and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Jis Mol, who practised as a lawyer, had also served as vice-president of the Mutholi Panchayat during the 2019–20 period. Preliminary investigations attribute the suspected suicides to marital discord. Jis Mol’s husband runs a bus service on the Kottayam–Ayarkunnam route.
A case of unnatural death has been registered and further investigation is under way.
