Tinubu approves Abuja law school hostel construction

President Bola Tinubu has approved the construction of 600-capacity hostels for students of the Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law School.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, Tinubu directed the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to immediately commence the projects.

The move, the presidency noted, is aimed at addressing accommodation challenges faced by students of the institution.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to immediately commence the construction of two hostels of 300 capacity each for the Nigerian Law School, Abuja,” the statement read.

In December 2024, the minister flagged off the design, construction and furnishing of an annexe office for the Body of Benchers, insisting that the provision of infrastructure for the judiciary was not a sign of interference by the executive.

Wike had also flagged off the design and construction of 10 sets of four-bedroom bungalows for staff of the Nigeria Law School, while also donating operational vehicles, including three coaster buses and four Hilux vehicles, promising to include two hostel projects – male and female – for the law school in the 2025 budget of the FCT.

In his statement, Lere said the construction of the hostels will be executed under emergency consideration, and would include a 300-capacity female hostel and another 300-capacity male hostel.

In addition to the hostels, Tinubu also approved the construction of a road linking the Body of Benchers Secretariat in Jabi District with Nile University.

“The FCT Minister’s Spokesperson said the road linking the Body of Benchers Secretariat with Nile University, when completed, will ease traffic congestion on the road leading to the head office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” the statement added.
